It looks so elegant and simple in the final spot but this matrix of animating Honda Insight headlights was a major feat of production planning and the careful melding of CG and live action.

It started with Cape Town VFX boutique BlackGinger mocking up a 3D previs to determine the optimal camera height, lensing and layout for the nearly 1000 sets of lights – the final grid contains only a few actual cars, the vast majority of what appear to be vehicles are a combination of practical headlight rigs and CG car bodies.
